Helio Slussen

Helio is a leading operator of coworking spaces, with ten locations in the Swedish cities of Stockholm and Malmö. Each space is uniquely designed to foster cooperation, growth, and creativity. Helio Slussen was commissioned as part of a building renovation, and the 1500 sqm coworking space is home to local businesses and individual workers who enjoy the use of a sumptuous cafeteria, thirty-three office rooms, and eight conference spaces.
The concept for Helio Slussen is “rymden” (Swedish for space), and the interior draws its inspiration from the cosmos. The dark blue and terracotta colour schemes evoke night skies and Martian landscapes, while tables feature a moonlight splash pattern with telescope-inspired lighting. BAUX acoustic panels tie the space together, enhancing both acoustics and the design narrative.
The design team at Helio Slussen was familiar with BAUX products, having worked with them on previous projects. For this project, BAUX tiles were used to create wall patterns that add texture and intricate details, giving the space a “cared-for” feel. In the entrance, the café integrates BAUX materials into the shop counter, which blends into the wall paneling in the adjacent seating area. The elegant blue arches of the BAUX patterns even inspired a wrought iron jalousie, which adds flexibility to the space while ensuring privacy for special events.

Acoustics were a key consideration in the design of Helio Slussen, particularly in the large entrance area, which boasts an open ceiling that spans three floors with two mezzanine levels. In a space like this, featuring expansive glass windows, hard floors, and high ceilings, acoustic challenges are inevitable. To tackle this, the interior design includes a white BAUX-tiled wall that runs the full height of the space. The wood wool tiles help reduce sound reflections, creating a more intimate space for meetings and conversations. Several of the larger conference rooms also incorporate BAUX materials, offering a quiet, focused environment for meetings and discussions.
The design team prioritised using sustainable materials that stand the test of time, both in terms of durability and utility. BAUX acoustic panels, made from sustainably managed forests, met these requirements perfectly. Robust and durable, should the space be remodelled or expanded in the future, the modular nature of BAUX products ensures that they can easily be reassembled or repurposed
