No, the paint does not affect the acoustics properties of any of BAUX Acoustic products.

BAUX Acoustic products excel at absorbing sound by allowing sound waves to enter their open structure and be absorbed. This effectively reduces unwanted sound reflections and noise.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Designed to absorb human voice frequencies (500-4000Hz) effectively, BAUX Wood Wool (25 mm thick) achieves an NRC of 0.40 and Alpha-w of 0.30 (class D) when directly mounted onto a wall. Enhanced ratings can be achieved by pairing it with Acoustic Stone wool. Further details on acoustic performance are available in the BAUX Material Safety Data Sheet.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
Engineered to absorb human voice frequencies (500-4000Hz), BAUX Acoustic Pulp (20 mm thick) achieves an NRC of 0.35 and Alpha-w of 0.35 (class D) when mounted onto a wall. Refer to the BAUX Material Safety Data Sheet for comprehensive information on acoustic performance.

BAUX Acoustic Felt
BAUX Acoustic Felt not only absorbs sounds effectively but also acts as a sound blocker, enhancing privacy for individuals. Detailed insights into its acoustic performance can be found in the BAUX Material Safety Data Sheet.

A well-crafted acoustic environment plays a pivotal role in enhancing productivity and fostering overall health and wellbeing. Noise impacts individuals in multiple ways: physiologically, sudden and unpleasant sounds can elevate heart rates; psychologically, sound can induce either a sense of calmness or heighten stress levels; cognitively, it influences how we perceive information, thus affecting our capacity to learn; and behaviorally, excessive noise can trigger aggression and diminish helpfulness. Therefore, prioritising good acoustics and noise reduction is essential for creating conducive environments that support optimal performance and overall wellness.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
By incorporating stone wool (40mm) behind BAUX Wood Wool, you can achieve an A-Class acoustic rating (NRC 0.95).

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
While adding stone wool (40mm) behind BAUX Acoustic Pulp doesn’t alter the overall classification, it significantly enhances sound absorption in the 100-400 Hz frequency range. Contact BAUX for test reports on various installation methods.

BAUX Acoustic Felt
Using BAUX Acoustic Felt as a standalone divider or desk stand doesn’t provide additional options for improving the acoustic rating aside from selecting the placement of panels within the space.

Absolutely! Just note that BAUX products absorb sound in the room rather than block it. For further information, see the question “Are BAUX products sound isolating?” in the FAQ.

BAUX products are not designed to block sound and stop noise travel from one room to another. BAUX products are designed to absorb sound and reduce sound reflections within a space.

The vertical axis represents the absorption coefficient, indicating the level of sound absorption. A value of zero (0) signifies no absorption, where 100% of incoming sound is reflected back into the room, typical for very hard materials. A value of one (1) indicates full absorption, where all sound is absorbed, with none reflected back. A value of 0.5 means 50% of the incoming sound is absorbed while the remaining 50% is reflected.

The horizontal axis denotes sound frequency (Hz). Higher frequencies correspond to higher-pitched sounds.

The curve illustrates BAUX Acoustic products’ absorption across different frequency ranges. BAUX Wood Wool, for instance, effectively absorbs human voice frequencies (between 500 and 4000Hz). The NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) quantifies the sound absorption capacity of an acoustic product.

Detailed sound graphs can be found on specific product pages and in our catalogues for each material. You can access our catalogues here.

To give an exact answer, we recommend you consult an acoustics expert who can visit and make precise calculations. BAUX can offer advice, or consult remotely. Please contact BAUX HQ or your local BAUX sales representative.

NRC, or Noise Reduction Coefficient, is a metric used to quantify the sound absorption capabilities of an acoustic product. Ratings range from 0 to 1: an NRC of 0 implies no sound absorption, while an NRC of 1 signifies complete absorption. Simply put, higher NRC values indicate sound absorption.

The thickness and density of a product are key factors in determining its NRC rating. For instance, an acoustic product with a rating of 0.95 means it absorbs 95% of the sound in the space, with the remaining 5% being reflected.

Installation & maintenance

You can find all general and technical documents here.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Yes, we provide touch-up paint for all our BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool products.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
No, we do not provide touch-up paint for our BAUX Acoustic Pulp panels.

BAUX Acoustic Felt
No, we do not provide touch-up paint for our BAUX Acoustic Felt dividers.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Wood Wool panels and tiles that cannot be refurbished will be ground down and used as ballast and filling material, moisture absorbent sprinkling, a substrate for running tracks, etc. No negative environmental impact arises when wood wool is deposed in nature. On the contrary, it adds a calcium supplement. When CO2 from the air binds to the cement particles, calcium is formed (i.e. carbonation)

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
Acoustic Pulp panels that cannot be refurbished will be ground down into smaller pieces and then returned in a circular process as raw material for new production. This process is 100 % circular without any material waste.

BAUX Acoustic Felt
Recycled PET dividers that cannot be refurbished will be ground down to fibres for reuse in other PET products, giving them a second life. Read more about BAUX Circle Programme here.

After providing the necessary information, the BAUX support team will decide if we can take back panels and tiles that have been installed with either screws or glue. Usually, we do, but it depends on how the panels and tiles look after dismantling. Read more about BAUX Circle Programme here.

Reach out to the BAUX customer service team through phone or email. Our team will assess the information you provided to determine the feasibility of taking back the panels. Before collection, we will describe how to package the products to prevent damage during transit to the desired destination.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Yes, feel free to install frames surrounding the panels. If you do so, we propose you first install the tiles and panels and then adapt the frame measurements to the installation.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp

BAUX Acoustic Felt
Installing frames around BAUX Acoustic Felt is not recommended.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
The blend of wood wool and cement renders the material sturdy and long-lasting, making it a popular choice for environments like schools and gymnasiums. Surface damage resulting from heavy impact can generally be concealed with touch-up paint, providing satisfactory results.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
Designed for interior wall applications, BAUX Acoustic Pulp features biomimicry-engineered cellulose material for durability and robustness. Despite its resilient properties, Acoustic Pulp should be handled with care and not exposed to humid or dirty environments or subjected to high impact and wear.

BAUX Acoustic Felt
BAUX products are built to endure regular wear and typically do not require additional maintenance. However, we recommend occasional light cleaning with a vacuum cleaner if the materials accumulate dust.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Yes, cutting our tiles or panels with a hand saw, circular saw, or similar is possible. The colours do not run through the material, so you need to use touch-up paint if you cut the tiles or panels.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
We do NOT recommend cutting the Pulp panel with the risk of altering the product quality long-term. However, if cuts need to be made, use a very sharp knife or a razor to get a fine edge. A fine hand saw can also work, but the edge may be uneven.

BAUX Acoustic Felt
Cutting or resizing the BAUX Acoustic Felt is not recommended. Instead, opt for any of our nine available sizes found here.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Yes. BAUX Wood Wool is moisture-resistant, and the high pH value of BAUX products discourages mould or mildew, making it rot-resistant. BAUX wood wool products are suitable for kitchens, bathrooms and swimming pool areas. When using BAUX products in shower rooms, tiles or panels should only be mounted on the ceiling, not walls.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
You should not install BAUX Acoustic Pulp in high-moisture areas such as bathrooms. If you install it in kitchens, you should avoid areas close to moisture.

BAUX Acoustic Felt
Using BAUX Acoustic Felt in kitchens with high levels of humidity or wet rooms is not recommended.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Yes, BAUX can provide glue or screws that suit your selected choice of installation.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
Yes, BAUX can provide the glue for your installation. We do not recommend installing BAUX Acoustic Pulp with screws.

Sustainability

At BAUX, sustainability is at the core of our company. It goes through every aspect, from business operations to production units and everything between and beyond. That’s why we make it easy to reuse or recycle every acoustic product, down to the smallest part. To achieve this, we have developed a method where our recycling system takes over – the easy-to-use and environmentally friendly Circle programme. Read more about BAUX Circle Programme here.

The BAUX supplier selection process follows a rigid and detailed qualification procedure with the ambition of finding long-term partners. BAUX’s main objective with suppliers goes beyond finding suppliers that can deliver our products. Instead, we seek long-term partners who share the BAUX vision and are able to shape the future together with us. We build lasting relationships with our partners and collaboratively develop successful products. We work hard together, constantly striving to push the boundaries in sustainability, creativity, productivity, service levels, etc. Sustainability and environmental questions are always one of the first vital criteria we look for. As a result, we always go beyond our suppliers to understand their sub-suppliers and the root source of all materials sourced to ensure we can offer our customers the lowest possible environmental impact across the whole material chain. Beyond this, we also require our suppliers to comply with IWAY requirements. This means that they have to prevent child labour, secure non-discrimination, compensate their workers with reasonable wages, provide safe and healthy work environments and much more.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
We aim to create the lowest possible environmental impact across our whole material chain – from the original raw material to production, delivery, installation, usage and recycling or re-usage of products. We continue to make progress and continuous improvements towards this goal. Forests are PEFC and FSC certified, and timber is collected close to the factory to minimise environmental impact. Entire logs are used in production, and waste from all stages of production is ground down and reused for new products or used to heat our factory.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
We aim to create the lowest possible environmental impact across our whole material chain – from the original raw material to production, delivery, installation, usage and recycling or re-usage of products. We continue to make progress and continuous improvements towards this goal. All cellulose comes from Swedish PEFC and FSC-certified forests. The Acoustic Pulp leftover ingredients and water are recycled back into the factory’s closed circular system to be reused in the next batch. The only emission generated from production is a tiny amount of pure and clean water vapour that’s released as the material dries.

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
There are no recycled materials in BAUX Wood Wool products because the wood wool fibres need to be of a certain length to create the open structure that generates the functional requirements of BAUX products.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
There are no recycled materials in BAUX Acoustic Pulp products. The wheat bran used in the panels is a residue from the Swedish agricultural food industry. The cellulose is borrowed from the Swedish forest, and the panels can be recycled multiple times and reused to make new panels or other cellulose-based products.

With great care, it is possible to repaint BAUX Wood Wool tiles and panels. We recommend spray painting to maintain their acoustic performance.

BAUX Acoustic Pulp
No, we do not recommend painting the panels. The panel’s surface is nano-perforated to allow sound waves to enter inside the panel. If the paint is applied, these small holes will potentially be covered, and the acoustical performance of the panel will decrease. Today, we offer Pulp panels in five new colours – all patterns in bio colours.
