Yes, if adding stone wool (40mm) behind BAUX Wood Wool, you will be able to achieve A-Class. You can add stone wool to your BAUX order.
BAUX Acoustic Pulp
At the moment BAUX has not performed any acoustical tests to verify acoustical ratings for other installation methods than directly mounted to the wall. However, adding stone wool (40mm) behind BAUX Acoustic Pulp will increase the sound absorption. Tests will be conducted during 2019 to verify the exact result with stone wool backing.
BAUX Acoustic Felt
BAUX Acoustic Felt as a stand alone divider or deskstand does not offer any additional options to further increase the acoustic rating.
Absolutely! Just note that BAUX products absorb sound in the room, rather than isolating the sound. See the question “Is the BAUX material sound isolating?” in the FAQ for further information.
BAUX products are not designed to block sound and stop noise travel from one room to another. BAUX products are designed to absorb sound and reduce reflections within a space.
The vertical axis is the absorption coefficient, which indicates the level of absorption. Zero (0) means that no sound is absorbed, i.e. 100% of all incoming sound towards the material surface is reflected back into the room again. This is typically true for very hard materials. One (1) means that all sound is absorbed in the material, i.e. no sound is reflected back into the room. A value of 0.5 means that 50% of the incoming sound is absorbed (disappears) and 50% is reflected back into the room.
The horizontal axis is the frequency of the sound (HZ). The higher the frequency, the higher the pitch of the sound you hear.
The curve indicates how much sound BAUX Acoustic products absorb for different frequency spans. BAUX Wood Wool is well equipped to absorb human voice frequencies (between 500-4000Hz). NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) is an average rating of how much sound an acoustic product can absorb.
The sound graph can be found on specific product pages and in our catalogue for Acoustic Pulp or Acoustic Wood Wool. You can find the catalogue in our Architect Toolkit download section on our website.
To give an exact answer, we recommend you consult an acoustics expert who can visit and make precise calculations. BAUX can offer advice, or consult remotely. Please contact BAUX HQ or your local BAUX sales representative.
NRC stands for ‘Noise Reduction Coefficient’. It is a rating system that explains how much sound an acoustic product can absorb. NRC ratings range from 0 to 1. An NRC rating of 0 means that the product absorbs no sound. An NRC rating of 1 means that the product absorbs all sound. In other words the higher the NRC, the better the product is at soaking up the sound.
The thickness and density of a product are two factors in calculating an NRC value. An acoustic product with a .95 NRC rating means that 95% of the sound in the space is absorbed, while the other 5% is reflected.
A well-designed acoustic environment can improve productivity and have a positive effect on health and wellbeing. Noise affects workers in four ways: physiological (sudden and unpleasant noise can increase heartbeat), psychological (sound can either calm us down or raise stress levels), cognitively (how we perceive things which affects our learning capacity) and finally behaviorally (noise can make us more aggressive and less helpful).

BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
The combination of wood wool and cement makes the material hard and durable, and is therefore often used in schools or gymnasiums. Surface damages due to heavy impact can easily be covered with good result using touch up paint.
BAUX Acoustic Pulp
BAUX Acoustic Pulp is an acoustical panel designed for interior wall applications. The biomimicry engineered cellulose material and the product design gives the product durable and strong properties. However, Acoustic Pulp should still be handled with care and not be placed in humid or dirty environments or in areas were it will be exposed to high impact and wear. The 0% wheat version is slightly more sensitive than the other versions.
BAUX Acoustic Felt
BAUX products should whitstand normal wear and do not require subsequent care. However, we recommend light cleaning using a vacuum cleaner if the materials is dusty. Should vacuum-cleaning prove insufficient, you can wipe the panels using a damp cloth. Cleaning liquids may be used.
BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
Yes, it is possible to cut our tiles with a circular saw, tiger saw or similar. The colors do not run through the material, so if you cut the tiles, you need to use touch up paint.
BAUX Acoustic Pulp
Yes, it is possible to carefully cut the Acoustic Pulp with a fine circular saw, jig saw or similar. However, as the panel is hollow inside, the edges holds the structure together so it’s a limitation to what extent you can cut the panel. The cut panels should be placed so that the open gaps can be covered.
BAUX Acoustic Felt
Cutting or resizing the BAUX Acoustic Felt is not recommended. Instead opt for any of our 9 available sizes found here.

Applying BAUX Wood Wool with adhesive is the easiest and fastest way to install BAUX products. We suggest Pattex No More Nails since it performs well and has zero VOC. Other approved types are Casco Superfix and Loctite Powergrab. Pattex can be ordered through BAUX when placing your order.
Another option is to buy BAUX Wood Wool with magnets attached to the back of each tile or panel. When using this method you will need to mount the BAUX tiles or panels onto metal sheets or metal cassettes (these can also be ordered through BAUX) and the tiles/panels are then attached by hand and can easily be rearranged according to taste. The cassettes create an air-gap against the wall, which has the added bonus of improving sound absorption slightly. If you use magnets, bear in mind that the creative pattern of the tiles must be adapted to match the dimensions of the cassettes and sheets.
A third way to install BAUX Wood Wool is to use screws. BAUX provides touch up paint (85ml) for free in all orders to cover screw heads. This is the recommended method if you intend to install in the ceiling.

BAUX supplier selection process follows a rigid and detailed qualification procedure with the ambition to find long term partners. BAUX’s main objective with suppliers goes beyond finding suppliers that can deliver our products. Instead, we seek long term partners that share the BAUX vision and are able to shape the future together with us. We build lasting relationships with our partners and collaboratively develop successful products. We work hard together, constantly striving to push the boundaries in sustainability, creativity, productivity, service levels and so on. Sustainability and environmental questions are always one of the first key criterias we look for. As a result, we always go beyond our suppliers to understand their sub-suppliers and the root source of all materials sourced, in order to make sure we can offer our customers the lowest possible environmental impact across the whole material chain. Beyond this we also require our suppliers to comply with IWAY requirements. Among other things this means that they have to prevent child labour, secure non-discrimination, compensate their workers with reasonable wages, provide safe and healthy work environments and much more.
BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool
We aim to create the lowest possible environmental impact across our whole material chain – from the original raw material to production, delivery, installation, usage and recycling or re-usage of products. We continue to make progress and continuous improvements towards this goal. Forests are PEFC and FSC certified and timber is collected close to the factory to minimize environmental impact. Entire logs are used in production and waste from all stages of production is ground down and reused for new products or used to heat our factory.
BAUX Acoustic Pulp
We aim to create the lowest possible environmental impact across our whole material chain – from the original raw material to production, delivery, installation, usage and recycling or re-usage of products. We continue to make progress and continuous improvements towards this goal. All cellulose comes from Swedish PEFC and FSC certified forests. All of the Acoustic Pulp leftover ingredients and water are recycled back into the factory’s closed circular system to be reused again in the next batch. The only emission generated from production is a tiny amount of pure and clean water vapor that’s released as the material dries.

Cement, a proven building material, binds the wood wool to provide strength, moisture resistance, and fire protection. BAUX Acoustic Wood Wool products also have very low VOC.
BAUX Acoustic Pulp
BAUX Acoustic Pulp is made out of sustainably harvested Swedish fir and pine trees, recycled water, non-GMO wheat bran, potato starch, plant-derived wax and citrus fruit peels. No chemicals are added to the product. All of the ingredients are mixed together with water and fed into a 3D mold. Next, the contents of the mold are pressed with 40 tonnes of weight and dried under pressure using a highly technological vacuum technique so that it becomes extremely dense. The dried surface is then nano- perforated using advanced laser technology for enhanced sound absorption.
