The BAUX designs create the right acoustic environment and provide a distinct graphic identity within the space

Sweden’s leading food logistics company, Mathem, have commissioned Millimeter Architects to design a sustainable, inclusive workplace for their new premises in Stockholm. The new building accommodates warehouse, distribution and administration workers and was recently awarded  ‘Logistics & Warehouse Construction of the Year 2023’ by Byggindustri. With a strong focus on hospitality and sustainability, BAUX materials have been used in a central meeting space, which includes a reception, lounge, cafe and restaurant.

To create a modern, sustainable workplace, Mathem wanted the interior design concept to focus on all aspects of sustainability: materials, energy, recycling and social sustainability. The interior features design elements that foster a sense of community, with spaces for meetings, socialising and wellness activities. The central meeting hub is a unique space where employees from different roles can meet and relax in a collaborative and inclusive environment.

Acoustic space and harmonious space

Creating the right acoustic environment in large social spaces can be challenging. Rooms designed to accommodate the needs of several hundred people usually have to contend with high levels of background noise. If acoustic design can’t reduce sound reflections, people won’t want to spend time there, and the benefits of social interaction are missed.

Recognising the need to create a harmonious space that fosters connection and collaboration, Millimeter Architects has used BAUX acoustic designs extensively to enhance acoustics and the room’s visual appeal. The patterns and structures of the BAUX wood wool tiles create a tactile, welcoming experience which engenders socialising with colleagues by effectively reducing sound reflections in the human voice range.

The BAUX designs create the right acoustic environment and provide a distinct graphic identity within the space. The blue wood wool designs match Mathem’s graphic identity, and the flowing arch patterns and moss wall design in the reception add a touch of serenity and sophistication, transforming a busy meeting hub into an inspiring and visually captivating space.

Mathem’s new premises are committed to their sustainability vision, where wellbeing and connection drive engagement and productivity. The building is an outstanding example of how sustainable design choices and thoughtful acoustics can create an inclusive environment for employees to work, meet and thrive.
