Case: Dentme

All around the world, architects and designers are using BAUX Acoustic Tiles and Panels in exciting projects for great brands. In a series of newsletters, we aim to introduce you to a selection of projects and the mind masters behind the designs of these acoustic artworks. Why? Because there are endless design possibilities to share with the world. We simply will call these newsletters Interviews #.

What was the vision for Dentme’s newest dental practice?

We wanted to give people a different experience and create a space that feels fun, floating, relaxed, not cold, and clinical like many dentist waiting rooms. We drew inspiration from nature – places that calm the mind to help people relax and break the thoughts they have when waiting to see a dentist.

How did acoustics play into the overall design?

We knew we had to get the acoustics right, it was an important part of the design brief. Sound can either enhance the experience or detract from it. We needed materials that would control noise but also create the right aesthetic. BAUX Acoustic Pulp ticked all the boxes.

Why was BAUX Acoustic Pulp the right choice for Dentme?

We knew straight away we would work with BAUX materials on this project. Acoustic Pulp absorbs sound beautiful, which is so important for creating a peaceful environment. The design has had a strong impact on the space, acoustically and visually.

Can you tell us more about the aesthetic impact of BAUX Acoustic Pulp?

The BAUX design creates another dimension and rhythm in the space, which helps to distract the mind. The origami patterning of acoustic Pulp adds this subtle, futuristic feel, and the organic nature of panels and patterning catches the eye and distracts the mind. It helps to find the balance between keeping the space calm but also visually engaging.

How did sustainability influence your design choices?

Dentme sees their practice as a movement, so it was important to use materials that reflect the ethos. BAUX Acoustic Pulp is biodegradable, it’s also made from natural fibres and feels authentic. BAUX materials are also easy to assemble and maintain, so they can easily be removed and replaced.

What’s your favourite feature of the interior space?

It has to be the waiting area. It has a dreamlike, otherworldly feel. Patients love it, and the staff say it’s a great workplace. It’s a win when a design feels good for everyone. We’ve created an environment that changes the way people think about visiting the dentist.
