The Live Design Project

The Live Design Project recently completed the refurbishment of a semiconductor client's office in Singapore, which includes a 550m² staff canteen that spans the 1st and 2nd floors. Designed to seat 120 to 150 employees, the canteen caters to various activities that enhance well-being and productivity.

The canteen is a versatile space where staff can relax, have a coffee or have a conversation over lunch. It can also be used as an extra meeting space. BAUX materials have been used to improve acoustics, meeting both the practical needs of a bustling canteen and creating a welcoming space for employees to connect and rejuvenate.

In a canteen space, which is spread out over two floors, with a large number of people eating and meeting, managing noise levels caused by human activity is crucial. Traditional soft fabrics weren’t an option, as environments like canteens require hard, easily cleanable surfaces. BAUX wall-mounted wood wool tiles and panels addressed the acoustic challenges and allowed the design team to enhance the overall aesthetic, creating a professional space to meet and relax.

To create the right focus, one of the BAUX designs reflects the company’s corporate colour, blue, adding a touch of brand identity to the space. A second BAUX design, using natural tones, spreads up across both floors to maximise sound absorption and create a cohesive thread between the spaces.

A requirement for the project was that the materials used had sustainable certification. At BAUX, we share this vision of using sustainable materials. Sustainability is at the heart of everything BAUX creates and a vital part of our production cycles. This commitment extends even beyond the lifespan of our products, and we’ve made it easy to reuse or recycle every component of our acoustic products using our recycling system, Circle.

The client loves the new canteen space and appreciates its practicality and versatility. It serves multiple functions, from meetings and casual coffee chats with friends to quick conversations and lunch breaks. Workers can also take their laptops and work there comfortably. The use of BAUX materials has significantly reduced sound reflections, creating a quieter environment that makes it easier for employees to focus and engage in conversations with colleagues.
