Timber Research Centre - wood par excellence

Nestled amongst the forests in Haute Savoie, France, Pôle d’Excellence Bois is a resource centre for the development of timber products used in the design and construction industries. When SILO Architects won the commission to design the reception space, BAUX eco-friendly acoustic wood wool tiles presented the perfect opportunity to reinterpreting the space using a unique raw wood product. In collaboration with a local carpenter and timber merchant, they created a BAUX design that encapsulated the essence of the project.

BAUX’s colour and shape palettes allowed the design team to create a vibrant graphic identity within the reception areas. The sound absorption properties of the eco-friendly acoustic wood wool tiles meant the open spaces were almost as tranquil as the forest itself. The recyclable wood wool materials helped reduce the buildings eco-footprint and regulate moisture. The result? Another satisfied client. Check out our BAUX products to see how you can transform any space!

Acoustic meeting area
Pôle d’Excellence Bois is a hub and resource centre for carpenters, designers and manufacturers, anyone in fact who works with wood. A place for discussion and sharing ideas.

Inspirational working space
The original space was an old industrial unit. It was empty, raw, with white walls and visible cabling. In collaboration with a local carpenter and timber merchant, they created a BAUX design that encapsulated the essence of the project. Great for work and contemplation.

The original space was an old industrial unit. It was empty, raw, with white walls and visible cabling. BAUX allowed us to showcase wood’s versatility and transformational design properties, covering the full lifecycle from raw material to manufacturing, use and recycling.

Close to nature
The eco-friendly acoustic wood wool tiles allowed the architect to create geometric patterns, re-interpreting the tree as a unified visual identity throughout the space.
