Sony Music wanted an open office concept, so the BAUX desk dividers perfectly balanced privacy and acoustics without closing the space.

When Sony Music consolidated several subsidiary companies into one head office in Stockholm, the challenge was creating a space that felt like home for indie and major record labels alike. Interior designer Fredrik Wallner delivered a functional, flexible, and sustainable interior solution that meets the needs of Sony Music’s diverse team and reflects the labels’ and artists’ creative spirit.

The first step in bringing all Sony Music recording companies under one roof was choosing the correct location. They settled on Katarina Huset in Slussen, Stockholm, a building selected for its prime location and the owner’s commitment to sustainable building practices. The new office spans 1,800 sqm and includes meeting rooms, kitchen and lounge areas, and personal workspaces.

One of the biggest challenges was designing an inclusive space for indie and major labels alike. “It was a bit like working as a therapist—finding common ground,” Fredrik shares. His design concept was simple: everyone feels at home.

Fredrik chose a monochrome colour palette for the working spaces, combining warm grey surfaces, off-white carpets, aluminium lamps, and light grey tables. Vintage chairs add character, and the overall aesthetic creates a backdrop that allows the colourful images of Sony Music’s artists to take centre stage.

Sustainability was an important part of the design brief, and existing furniture from previous offices has been repurposed where possible. Sony Music also wanted to embrace an open office concept, emphasising flexible and collaborative workspaces. To provide privacy and comfort without sacrificing openness, Fredrik incorporated BAUX Acoustic Felt Desk Dividers made from GRS-certified recycled PET.

Sony Music wanted an open office concept, so the BAUX desk dividers provided the perfect balance of privacy and acoustics without closing the space. They mount directly to desks, saving space and keeping the environment neat and organised. Workers can personalise their desks by pinning items to the dividers, knowing the material won’t leave marks. It’s a clever way to provide personal space while keeping the office open and collaborative.

Sony Music’s team is thrilled with the result. The workspace feels organised and modern, thanks in part to the clean lines of the BAUX desk dividers. There’s less clutter, and the dividers offer privacy without cutting off communication – something workers appreciate.
